NETFLIX is about to lose hundreds of hours of television as a major TV franchise vanishes from the app.
Several television series are due to be culled from Netflix in the UK – and will head over to a rival service instead.
Netflix viewers will no longer be able to watch the vast library of Star Trek content as part of their subscription.
The TV giant is warning viewers that they have just weeks left before the shows disappear, as spotted by Cordbusters.
The removal will see several iconic series disappear, including the original Star Trek series featuring legendary sci-fi heroes Captain Kirk and Spock.
Also vanishing from Netflix is Star Trek: The Next Generation, starring British acting icon Sir Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The bulk of the series are due to disappear on January 8, 2026.
Although 2021 animated series Star Trek: Prodigy will vanish earlier on December 31, 2025.
Here’s the full list of Star Trek series that are due to be removed from Netflix UK:
- Star Trek: The Original Series
- Star Trek: The Animated Series
- Star Trek: The Next Generation
- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
- Star Trek: Voyager
- Star Trek: Enterprise
- Star Trek: Prodigy
That amounts to more than 750 episodes of TV disappearing, equivalent to more than 500 hours of streaming.
Fans reacted poorly to the news on a Facebook group titled Star Trek: The Original Series & Movies.
One fan said: “That’s the end of Netflix for me.”
Another noted: “All I watch is The Next Generation on loops. What will I do?”
And one urged: “Buy the Star Trek DVDs. Then the series is yours always.”
Several Star Trek properties will stay on Netflix, however.
That includes two Star Trek movies: Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond.
MOVING ON
The good news is that Star Trek isn’t disappearing from UK screens entirely.
You’ll still be able to watch them on the Paramount+ streaming service.
And Paramount+ also has other Star Trek series, including Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Lower Decks.
You can get a seven-day free trial for Paramount+ but beyond that, you’ll have to pay.
There are three pricing tiers for Paramount+, as follows:
- Paramount+ Basic (with Ads) – £4.99 a month
- Paramount+ Standard (Ad-Free) – £7.99 a month
- Paramount+ Premium – £10.99 a month
It’s worth noting that if you’re a Sky TV customer with the Sky Cinema package, you get Paramount+ for free.
You can also pay extra to upgrade your package from the basic free tier included with Sky Cinema.
The Sky Cinema package typically costs £10 a month and can be added on to your existing Sky Stream or Sky Glass subscriptions.
And it’ll also net you a pair of free Vue cinema tickets to use every month.
