So, will Netflix finally take care of broadcasting the feature film? Gundam ? In 2021, the platform with the red N found itself associated with the project carried by Legendary Pictures, and then entrusted to director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. A few years later, Deadline ultimately claimed that Netflix had been excluded from the project in order to favor a theatrical release. But the twists and turns regarding this adaptation never end. American media sources now claim that the production company behind the phenomena Pacific Rim et Dune would be in discussions again with the streaming giant regarding the distribution of live-action Gundam.
Netflix and Legendary did not wish to answer questions from Deadline regarding this information, suggesting that the deal may not be over yet. While awaiting official confirmation, we already know that Sweet Tooth director Jim Mickle has replaced Vogt-Roberts and will have the difficult task of bringing the feature film to life Gundam. It will also be the very first live-action Gundam film destined for cinemas. This clarification is important, since there already exists a Japanese-Canadian television film entitled G-Saviour which was broadcast in 1999. Production on the new film began in February 2025, but the mystery surrounding its storyline remains. Deadline nevertheless affirms that the feature film should be carried by two stars well known to aficionados of streaming programs.
Who will play the protagonists?
It seems that Noah Centineo (To all the boys I’ve loved) et Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The Housekeeper) will find themselves headlining the live-action Gundam. Will they be allies or enemies? As a reminder, the Gundam franchise takes place in a science fiction universe where humanity has managed to establish different colonies in space. But when tensions eventually rise between Earth and the various space colonies, this futuristic civil war is fought by soldiers in giant robot-like armors, the so-called “locks“.
So should we expect Noah Centineo and Sydney Sweeney to face off in their own respective Gundams? With production underway for some time now, it shouldn’t be long before we learn more.
