Netflix top 10 movies — here’s the 3 worth watching right now

Halloween is just around the corner now, and you can find plenty of must-watch treats across the best streaming services. But when Netflix’s library is packed with so many hit movies, narrowing down what to watch next can turn into a headache.

Whenever I can’t figure out what to watch next, I make a beeline for the Netflix top 10 to cut through the noise quickly. Sure, there’s bound to be some over-hyped duds along the gems, but that’s why you’ll find me combing through Netflix’s ranking of the most-watched movies on its platform to highlight which ones are actually worth your time.

This week, that includes the earworm-filled hit of the summer from the animation team behind the “Spider-Verse” films, a tense new political thriller from the director of “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” and a heartwrenching documentary that should never have been a Netflix top 10 movie to begin with.

This article is based on Netflix’s top 10 movies list in the U.S. as of 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, October 25.

Best movies in the Netflix top 10

‘The Perfect Neighbor’ (2025)

Watch On

Netflix’s newest documentary, “The Perfect Neighbor,” isn’t an easy watch — nor should it be. But I do think it’s required viewing, especially given everything going on in the news. This heartwrenching documentary more than earns its 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, throwing you headfirst into senseless tragedy to trace how a neighborhood dispute in Florida escalated until the white woman behind all the complaints shot and killed her Black neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Shantrell Owens, a mother of four.

A trio of powerhouse storytellers, director Geeta Gandbhir, her partner and fellow filmmaker Nikon Kwantu, and “Stamped from the Beginning” producer Alisa Payne, at the helm rely almost entirely on police bodycam, ringcam, and cell phone footage to lay out the timeline of events. There’s very little commentary or editorializing, just 97 minutes of footage that doesn’t give you the luxury of looking away from the unflinching reality of systemic bigotry in America. It’s a true crime documentary that doesn’t cater to true crime fans, and that’s something I honestly think we need more of. (If I see one more dramatization of a serial killer’s murder spree, I’m going to scream.)

‘A House of Dynamite’ (2025)

Watch On

I think we’re all doomscrolling a little more than is healthy these days, and I’ll be honest, Netflix’s newest No. 1 movie “A House of Dynamite” ain’t exactly the antidote to that anxiety spiral. But it is the best Netflix original movie I’ve seen this year so far, which comes as little surprise given that it marks the return of Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, who gave us “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” “A House of Dynamite” is very much in the same vein: a nerve-shredding political thriller that’ll keep you awake at night, a white-knuckle stress test for these unprecedented times.

The premise is straightforward but nightmarish: an unidentified nation has fired a nuclear missile at Chicago with only minutes left until impact. As the president (Idris Elba) and other government officials scramble to respond, it quickly becomes clear that no matter how many precautions and safety nets are in place, even the highest leadership can still crumble under the pressure in such a high-stakes situation.

‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ (2025)

Watch On

Y’know what? Let’s end this list with a breezy watch because it is the weekend, after all. Netflix’s biggest hit of the summer, “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” is still going strong in the streaming charts, as it has been for months. Which means I still have an excuse to shout from the rooftops about how great this movie is. Though I’m not a K-pop fan by any means, even I had an absolute blast with this one. I even caught the sing-along version in theaters with friends back in August, and I highly recommend checking out the Halloween theatrical release if you’re on the fence! Sealing the Honmoon together in a theater full of Saja Boys/Huntrix fans while kids danced along to the songs was just the heartwarming pick-me-up I didn’t know I needed.

This bubble-gum pop animated adventure follows chart-topping idols Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) — a hit K-pop trio who use their music and demon-butt-kicking prowess to shield the world from supernatural evils. But their biggest challenge yet comes when a group of demons disguised as a rival boyband start climbing the charts. With the fate of everything they’ve worked for on the line, the idols gear up to slay the day, but victory will mean conquering their own inner demons first.
