Happy Valentine’s Day to anyone who’s celebrating, or happy Saturday if you and romance aren’t on speaking terms. Netflix is serving up plenty of great new movies to curl up on the couch with this weekend, but with so many choices, narrowing down what’s worth your time can quickly spoil the mood.

With that in mind, every weekend I’m combing through one of the best streaming services to see what movies have everyone buzzing. And better yet, which movies actually live up to the hype. Because we all know not everything that makes the Netflix top 10 is a guaranteed must-watch hit.

This week, the best of Netflix’s top 10 includes Tyler Perry’s heart-warming family comedy, a chilling horror thriller, and an ear-worm-filled animated adventure. None of these picks fit the vibe? Our guide to everything new on Netflix this month is packed with recommendations. Here are the three must-watch movies in Netflix’s top 10 this weekend. Enjoy!

‘Tyler Perry’s Joe’s College Road Trip’ (2026)

Tyler Perry has a direct line to Netflix’s subscribers hearts, so I wasn’t surprised to see his latest family comedy, “Joe’s College Road Trip,” shoot to the top spot immediately. It’s a spin-off of Perry’s popular Madea franchise, this time ditching the sassy matriarch for her foul-mouthed, hard-drinking brother Joe (Perry).

With his sheltered grandson B.J. (Jermaine Harris) set to start college soon, he hijacks B.J.’s cross-country road trip with his friends for some quality family time together. Naturally, all Hell breaks loose. The unlikely pair two brawl with bikers, go on the run from the law, deep dive into Black history, and, because this is a Tyler Perry movie, learn some heart-warming lessons along the way.

‘The Black Phone’ (2022)

Watch On

Before he scored his first Academy Award nomination for his transformative work as lyricist Lorenz Hart in “Blue Moon,” Ethan Hawke tapped into our primal fears as a masked serial child abductor The Grabber in Scott Derrickson’s horror thriller “The Black Phone.” I missed it the first time around, but I’ve heard good things and have been meaning to check it out. It was successful enough to earn a sequel, as much as that tells you these days.

The movie, which is based on a short story by Joe Hill, follows the Grabber’s latest victim, a 13-year-old named Finney Shaw (Mason Thames). Trapped in a soundproof basement, he’s surprised when the disconnected black phone on the wall begins to ring. Weirder still, the killer’s previous victims are on the line. It turns out to be just the lifeline, as the spirits provide him with guidance and support, helping him cook up a plan to escape and confront his captor.

‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ (2025)

Watch On

Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time couldn’t stay out of the limelight for long. “K-Pop Demon Hunters” spent a record six months in the Netflix top 10 before it finally got bumped, but now Huntrix is back, and with a fancy new “Oscar nominee” badge now that it’s up for this year’s Best Animated Feature award. It’s joined by another animated hit from last year, “How to Train Your Dragon,” but I think live-action remakes are lazy by design, and I’d much rather use this platform to shout out new IP when I can (especially by such a ground-breaking studio as Sony Pictures Animation, the team behind the “Spider-Verse” movies).

“K-Pop Demon Hunters” follows three K-pop stars, Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), who use their harmony protect the world from supernatural evils. But when a group of demons disguised as a rival boy band comes for their crown, the trio is forced to face their own inner demons to stand a chance at victory.
