Google seems to have quietly rolled out a small but noticeable change to Google Maps on Android Auto – and users are actually happy about it. The update, which hasn’t been officially announced, appears to modify how the Suggested Destinations feature behaves when Google Maps launches on car screens. According to a report by Android Authority, citing Reddit user steelbreeze9, Google Maps no longer automatically shows the Suggested Destinations dropdown when opened via Android Auto. Instead, users now need to tap the search bar to bring up a full-screen view showing both the Search and Suggested Destination sections. This new layout makes it easier to browse through saved and recent locations without the smaller, cluttered dropdown menu. news Also Read: ChatGPT Atlas Is Here: OpenAI’s AI-Powered Browser To Take On Chrome, Edge, Safari

Many Android Auto users seem relieved by the change. The dropdown often showed inaccurate or irrelevant destination suggestions, leading users to manually close it every time Maps opened. This small adjustment, therefore, feels like a usability improvement that removes one common frustration among regular commuters. news Also Read: Google Storage Full? Just Fix THIS Gmail Setting

That said, not everyone agrees. Some drivers who rely on the feature for daily commutes – such as travelling between home and work – have said they miss the convenience of having Suggested Destinations automatically appear. For them, the new update adds an extra step to access frequent routes that used to be instantly available.

The change seems to be rolling out gradually, with users on newer Pixel devices like the Pixel 10 Pro XL receiving it first. As with many Google updates, it’s unclear if this is a server-side tweak or part of a wider redesign for Android Auto’s Maps interface.

For now, users are calling for Google to include a toggle in the Settings menu so they can choose whether or not Suggested Destinations should appear automatically when Maps launches.
