In addition to last week’s HID subsystem pull that brought haptic touchpad support and other exciting additions for Linux 6.18, the input subsystem pull was merged this week to introduce a few new input drivers.

One of the new input drivers for Linux 6.18 is himax_hx852x as a driver for the Himax HX852x(ES) touch panel controller that supports multi-touch and capacitive touch keys.

Another new input driver for Linux 6.18 is for the Hynitron CST816x touchscreen control used for 240 x 240 1.28-inch round LCD display modules from Waveshare Electronics.

Fairphone 5

The third new driver is the Awinic AW86927 haptic driver. Making this driver stand out is that the AW86927 is used by the Fairphone 5 smartphone. This AW86927 input driver was specifically worked on by a Fairphone engineer for getting this haptic input support upstream for the Fairphone 5.

More details on these new input drivers and other input changes for Linux 6.18 via this pull now merged to Linux Git ahead of the Linux 6.18-rc1 release on Sunday.
