Amazon introduced a new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft last month, offering readers a more affordable option compared to the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition it had introduced the year before. Now, a new Reddit leak suggests yet another color Kindle model could be arriving soon.
The leak was shared by a Reddit user named Successful_Bear4855, who posted several images of an alleged new color Kindle model that Amazon reportedly plans to announce and release later this year. The leaker claims it could be called the “Kindle Petit Color,” but supposedly that name has not been finalized yet, and it may be called something else. You can check out leaked images of the device below.
The images show a white e-reader that resembles a Kindle and has a Kindle user interface. In the bottom right corner of the second image, you can see the Kindle Petit Color label, as well as a blurred-out serial number that just says “prototype.”
The leaker claims that the colors on the display of this new device are “much better than the Colorsoft,” and that they can be individually adjusted to change their saturation (via The Verge). The size of the device appears to be similar to that of the base black-and-white Kindle model, which has a 6-inch display. The Kindle Colorsoft has a 7-inch display, which is slightly larger.

This alleged new Kindle could have detachable bezels
It may also have “progressive colors” that let you change the text’s color
The Reddit post revealing all these details was written in Portuguese, and the author is reportedly testing the device. Not long after posting it on Reddit, the author deleted the post and their Reddit account. According to Android Authority, the post’s author said they were a former Amazon employee, so there could be some drama going on behind the scenes here that led to this leak. That said, there are still a few other interesting details the leaker shared about the device.
The most head-scratching detail I found about this leak is that the Kindle Petit Color might have swappable bezels. The device is supposedly available in black and white but features detachable bezels that can be swapped out for different colors. The colors reportedly include green leaf, deep purple, chromatic gray, and a special variant called “mermaid,” which “changes from soft pink to soft teal depending on the angle you look at it.”
I’ve never seen an e-reader with detachable bezels before, so if this new color Kindle has that feature, it would be a unique addition. However, I have a hard time believing it will, as I feel like that could make the experience uneven. But hey, Amazon, surprise me if this is even legit.
Keep in mind that all this info comes from a Reddit post, and none of the details have been confirmed. So, it’s best to take these claims with a huge pinch of salt.
Furthermore, another tidbit shared by the leaker was that the device will feature “progressive colors,” which will allow you to “set up your text to change color according to reading progress.” Supposedly, you can apply up to four different colors to the text, and it will change as you get through each quarter of your book. The colors will also appear in the status bar, apparently changing the color of the Wi-Fi and battery icons. I suppose this is a way to showcase the display’s color capabilities more, but to me, this feature seems somewhat pointless, and I feel that it would make the text distracting to read if not implemented properly.
Keep in mind that all this info comes from a Reddit post, and none of the details have been confirmed. So, it’s best to take these claims with a huge pinch of salt. It’s possible Amazon is working on a smaller and more colorful alternative to the Kindle Colorsoft, but it’s unclear if this Kindle Petit Color is the real deal. This might just be a prototype that never hits the market. We’ll likely find out this fall if Amazon announces any new Kindles then.
