TL;DR

  • Samsung’s One UI 8.5 is expected to bring a major redesign for its system apps.
  • Recent leaks point to redesigned Clock, Calculator, and Internet apps.
  • The update brings a good dose of colors and 3D neomorphic effects.

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 has already been spoiled by extensive leaks, even before the official release or even a beta rollout. Based on these leaks, we know that Samsung is planning a significant visual overhaul with the update, including redesigned menus and transparency features seemingly inspired by Apple’s latest iOS 26 update. In addition, Samsung is also expected to enhance app icons with 3D effects that might remind you of the bygone Touchwiz era. However, a more recent leak suggests these traits may not be limited just to app icons.

With One UI 8.5, Samsung could add 3D neomorphic effects to various system apps. A series of recent leaks already indicated these changes are coming to the Clock, Calculator, and the Samsung Internet browser.

Two sources, including SamMobile and tipster Tarun Vats, recently shared screenshots from the new Calculator app expected to ship with One UI 8.5. Here, we can clearly see the emphasis on individual buttons with an underlying shadow effect that makes the buttons appear slightly elevated.

Great News!

One UI 8.5: Calculator app gets an update to v12.5.10.18.

What’s new:
• Refreshed UI
• New UI effects
• New 3D app icon

The selected button in the Calculator app is also highlighted in a bluish-green gradient, while the app now has a new fluid animation to accommodate the numbers or text being selected. In addition, the Calculator’s icon also appears to have undergone a refresh and now looks more volumetric and three-dimensional. However, these changes are much less prominent when viewed with a dark theme.

Here’s a detailed comparison between different screens.

Apart from the visual changes, the Calculator app in One UI 8.5 will also access the phone’s clipboard, allowing it to suggest numbers or formulas from copied text.

Simultaneously, Samsung is bringing similar changes to the Clock app, as highlighted by leaker Ice Universe on X. Here, the 3D-fication is less prominent compared to the Calculator. Instead of relying on more shadows, Samsung appears to be using more vibrant colors across the board compared to the existing One UI 8 interface.

Besides being painted in more colors, the timer and the stopwatch sections of the Clock app now show more detailed graphics with accents around the clock dial. Another slight change comes in the form of the boxes now allocated to the different time zones in the world clock, which previously only appeared as text.

In addition to these changes, Samsung might also bring a bigger collection of backgrounds for the Samsung Internet app, as Ice Universe highlights in a separate Weibo post. Meanwhile, it is also expected to undergo some visual upgrades, including the repositioning of the address bar to somewhere near the center of the page, and also adding a shadow underneath it for similar 3D effects.
