On Wednesday, Jets quarterback Jordan Travis shared that he told the franchise that he intends to retire.
Travis revealed the decision on his social media accounts and posted a handwritten letter detailing the decision to end his very short professional career.
The 2024 fifth-round pick said that he had been advised to leave the game by his medical team after his rehab from a brutal leg injury in his final year of college with Florida State.
Travis’s leg wouldn’t heal properly, and it didn’t help his chances of staying on the football field.
“As I reflect on my journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude,” the letter began.
“From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft.
“I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career.
Travis then thanked special people who were there for him throughout his journey.
“To my family + friends – your unwavering support has meant everything to me,” he wrote.
“To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love – Thank you.
“To my teammates – thank you for pushing me, supporting me, and becoming family.
“… To the entire New York Jets organization – thank you for believe in me and providing me with the opportunity to live out the ultimate dream.”
Travis then brought up his severe leg injury he suffered in November of 2023.
“I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped.
“After much prayer + consultation with my Doctors + medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.

“It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust The Lord’s Plan above all else.
After quoting a bible verse, Travis concluded with writing, “Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the ride.
“With love + sincere gratitude, #13.”
Travis committed to Louisville in 2018 and played there that year before transferring to Florida State.
He was given the full-time starting duties in 2022 and threw for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns with the Seminoles.
