NFL fans shared their disgust with an officiating call involving Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the Wild Card playoff game.
The sequence occurred in the second quarter of Monday’s postseason game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
The Minnesota Vikings appeared to score a defensive touchdown on a Stafford fumble to tie things up at 10.
Stafford was being brought to the ground but before he was sent to the ground, he flicked the ball forward toward Rams star wideout Puka Nacua and linebacker Blake Cashman recovered it for a score.
However, the refs ruled it an incomplete pass after reviewing the first-down play and cited a forward-throwing motion by Stafford.
They also issued no penalty for intentional grounding.
The call wiped six points off the board for Minnesota, and fans on social media were quick to air their frustrations with the NFL, believing the league is “rigged” and that it should’ve been a fumble.
“This is rigged for LA,” one wrote.
“I’m beginning to believe that the NFL is rigged. All the calls are slanted to the Rams,” another commented.
“NFL obviously trying to hand the game to the rams. The commentary is horrible trying to defend this call,” a third added.
“Wow what a rigged Vikings/Rams game. According to @NFL QB can just dump the ball forward while taking a sack and it’s an “incomplete pass,” a fourth stated.
The legendary Bill Belichick appeared on the Manningcast with Peyton and Eli Manning, and he was not pleased with the call, too.
The New England Patriots legend slammed the decision and believes that nothing helps the defense in today’s NFL.
“It’s an offensive league. … There’s no rules to help the defense in the NFL. You can get away with that and call it an incomplete pass,” Belichick said on the incomplete pass.
The Vikings would allow 14 more points later in the second quarter and were down 24-3 at halftime.
Quarterback Sam Darnold threw an interception and was sacked six times including losing a fumble for a touchdown.
