NFL fans were in fits of rage after the officials seemed to miss a crucial penalty in the fourth quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Round playoff game.
The Eagles will be playing in the NFC Championship game after Sunday’s 28-22 win in snowy conditions at Lincoln Financial Field.
With 8:55 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Philadelphia’s offense was ready to go for it on a 4th-and-4 play on the Rams’ 32-yard line.
However, the play clock on the NBC broadcast read all zeroes as the Eagles then hiked the ball and quarterback Jalen Hurt completed a nine-yard pass to AJ Brown.
NFL fans believed that Philly should’ve been flagged for delay of game, pushing the ball back five yards which would’ve forced the team to punt.
Instead, the Eagles continued their drive that ended with a Jake Elliott field goal, giving them a 22-15 lead.
Social media users thought the refs were “rigging” the game to favor the Eagles.
“Rigged for the eagles that was obviously delay of game?” one fan said.
“No delay of game rigged,” another fan commented.
“NFL is so rigged dawg, eagles just got gifted,” a third added.
“How the hell do professional officials miss that delay of game,” a fourth added.
If the penalty had been called, the Rams would’ve gotten the ball back, trailing by only four points.
Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles squad would go three-and-out in the next drive.
Philadelphia would only need one play in the following drive to score six points, as Saquon Barkley took a 78-yard rush to the crib for the touchdown to make it a 28-15 ballgame.
The Rams would respond, scoring a touchdown in a 10-play, 70-yard drive in just 1:48 minutes.
After an Eagles punt, Los Angeles turned the ball over on downs on the 10th play of a drive to seal the victory for Nick Sirianni’s team.
