In 2023, Nintendo made its debut on the big screen with the release of Super Mario movieproduced by the French Illumination. With more than 1.3 billion dollars in revenue around the world, the film Mario became very quickly the second highest-grossing animated feature film in the worldbehind Frozen 2. He also became one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations of all history.

Unsurprisingly, a sequel is in the works and should arrive next spring. This second feature film will arrive as part Mario’s 40th birthday and should be an adaptation of Super Mario Galaxy. We know that a LIVE Action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda is also in preparation for 2027. Obviously, the Japanese firm does not intend to stop there. Other projects are already in preparation!

Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, Metroid soon to be adapted for cinema?

It was during its latest quarterly report that Nintendo confirmed work on several cinematographic adaptations of its licenseseach at a different stage of development. Of course, we do not know the details and the licenses that will be adapted. Even if many rumors mention projects on Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Animal Crossing or even Metroid.

In this report, Nintendo specifies that the company will be directly involved in the production and financing of these projectsin order to ensure consistency with his original works. As is the case with both films Super Marioas well as the LIVE Action of The Legend Of Zelda. When we see the quality of the first film, and as the second seems promising with the first trailer, there is reason to be confident and quite hyped for these projects.

Of course, you won’t have to wait for these adaptations right away. You’ll need to be a little patient, but it might be worth it!
