The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially a phenomenon becoming the company’s fastest-selling console ever. The Switch 2 has sold 3.5 million units around the world in its first four days.
Nintendo’s statement called it the “highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware within the first four days,” but we believe this also makes it the fastest-selling console ever. For example, the Sony PS5 hit 3.4 million consoles by the end of its first four weeks on sale.
Not all companies reveal sales data for the first four days on sale, but we do know this beats all other Nintendo and Sony consoles. It’s also known the latest Xbox series of consoles didn’t sell as well as the PS5, so the Switch 2 is almost certain to be the fastest release ever to reach 3.5 million units sold.
US retailers have seen high demand for the Switch 2 with midnight openings proving to be a success and many implementing the “Out of stock” banners Nintendo provided.
“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Nintendo’s Chief Operating Officer, Doug Bowser.
“We are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.”
Nintendo has yet to reveal any playing figures for its new flagship Mario Kart World game, but it’s likely to be high as up to half of all consoles sold were bundled with the title.

Nintendo has previously said it forecasts it will sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles before March 2026. The original Switch console has sold 152 million units so far.
Sony struggled to make its PS5 during the Covid-19 pandemic due to problems in global supply chains, which likely restricted how many it was able to sell in its first week. Despite stock issues, it still became the fastest-selling PlayStation console ever.
According to analysts speaking to The Verge back in February, it’s thought Valve’s Steam Deck series has sold up to four million consoles in its first three years.
