Uber already offers SUVs and bigger vehicles for larger parties, but it’s sizing up this holiday season with the launch of UberXXL rides.
The new tier promises cars with “larger trunk space.” It’s available now for rides to and from 60 airports globally, 40 of which are in the US and Canada. That includes JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark in the NYC area and the main airports in LA, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and Atlanta. “More to come,” Uber says.
Pricing will be somewhere between the cost of an UberXL and Uber Black, which you’ll see in the app before booking. The former offers rides for up to six people, while the latter promises luxury rides with professional drivers. (At 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday night, an UberXL from Brooklyn to JFK was running about $138 while an Uber Black was at $147.)
Now through Dec. 1, Uber One members will get $20 cash back on their next UberXXL ride.
Those who need something more affordable can now share an airport trip with another passenger using UberX Share. You can only add one person to your trip, but Uber predicts savings of up to 25% compared with a usual UberX fare, even if you don’t get an airport buddy.
UberX Share for airports is launching in the US at AUS (Austin), DEN (Denver), EWR (New York), IAD (Washington, D.C.), MIA (Miami), MSY (New Orleans), PHX (Phoenix), SFO (San Francisco), and internationally at AMS (Amsterdam) and MAD (Madrid).
