Nothing is officially stepping into the over-ear headphone game, adding a fresh product category to its expanding audio lineup. The company recently launched the CMF Buds 2A, Buds 2, and Buds 2 Plus under its sub-brand, CMF. Now, it seems like they’re ready to make some bold choices and bring their innovative approach to the headphone market as well. Nothing recently confirmed that its first-ever over-ear headphones are in development and expected to launch later this year.
This announcement follows Nothing’s recent partnership with high-end audio brand KEF, signalling the company’s commitment to raising the bar in sound quality. These headphones have been rumored for a while, and speculation intensified after a wireless headphone model bearing the number B170 received certification from SGS Fimko, a strong hint that Nothing is gearing up to enter the premium audio market.
Nothing Headphone Concept
Interestingly, the concept for these headphones has been floating around for quite some time. Nothing CEO Carl Pei shared fan-made concept designs as early as October 2022, which may have influenced the product’s final direction. In a recent video, Nothing’s design team openly admitted they find most of today’s headphones uninspiring and want to create something that’s not only visually expressive but also highly functional. We can likely expect unique and easily accessible buttons that users can operate without looking or fumbling, making them perfect for on the go convenience.
Beyond design, Nothing promises that the sound quality will compete with the best in the segment. The company even claimed that these headphones will rival premium models like Apple’s AirPods Max, but at a more affordable price tag.
The headphones are expected to launch till the end of this year and we could even see them debut launching alongside the highly anticipated Nothing Phone 3.a
