Nvidia has finally closed the purchase of Run:aia startup whose acquisition was announced last April and which is finally part of the company after the European Union has authorized the operation. This startup offers CPU orchestration software designed to organize groups of GPUs more efficiently, and that from now on will become open sourcealthough they have not confirmed when they will do so.
The Price that Nvidia has paid to retain the startup is unknown, but some rumors suggest that it is around $700 million. Run:ai and Nvidia have had a relationship for quite some time, since the former has been a partner of Nvidia since 2020. In fact, the only GPUs with which its software is compatible are those from Nvidia.
However, after moving to open source, developers who wish could develop platform compatibility so that it is capable of working with other CPUs. It was founded in 2018, around the time Nvidia began to enter the AI sector with different technologies.
The founders of the company have highlighted that they are delighted to continue moving forward based on what they have achieved so far, in addition to «expand our talented team and grow our product and market reach«. Apart from this, they have pointed out that its commitment to its customers, partners and broader AI ecosystem continues.
On the other hand, they have emphasized that «As part of Nvidia, we will continue to empower AI teams with the freedom to choose the tools, platforms and frameworks that best meet their needs. We will continue to strengthen our agreements and work with the ecosystem to offer a wide variety of AI solutions and platforms«.
Both have highlighted that they believe that «AI and accelerated computing are transforming the world at an unprecedented pace, and we believe it’s just the beginning. GPUs and AI infrastructure will continue to be at the forefront of these innovative transformations, and joining Nvidia offers us an extraordinary opportunity to continue a joint mission to help humanity solve the world’s biggest challenges.«.
