OBS Studio 31.1 is now available for those using this cross-platform free software for screencasting and other screen recording purposes. OBS Studio 31.1 is another great step forward for this open-source software that has a devoted following and user-base across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
For Linux users OBS Studio 31.1 is quite exciting in that it adds explicit sync support for PipeWire screen capture to improve that experience on the modern Linux desktop OBS Studio 31.1 on Linux also adds support for multi-track videos on both Linux and macOS systems. OBS Studio’s multi-track Video feature allows managing multiple audio/video tracks simultaneously for advancing streaming use-cases. Also for Linux users is support for hardware-accelerated browser source. The hardware-accelerated browser source integration though is disabled by default on NVIDIA GPUs due to feature support inconsistencies across NVIDIA driver series and GPUs.
OBS Studio 31.1 also adds QVBR (Quality-Defined Variable Bitrate) rate control support for the Video Acceleration API (VA-API) as another Linux win. OBS Studio 31.1 also provides initial support for Windows on ARM, new UI appearance options, preview zoom control, support for color format/space/range GPU conversion, and support for the V4L2 virtual camera on non-Linux systems like the BSD operating systems.
