Amazon has announced that it is going to eliminate about 16,000 jobs in the companyas part of an organizational restructuring that began last fall that is in its final stage, and that involves layoffs in certain teams. The Vice President of the company, Beth Galetti, has been in charge of communicating the news to the staff through a statement.
In his text, Galetti attributes the layoffs to the need to reduce layers of management and leadership, as well as to minimize bureaucracy. The departures will take place across the company, although for now there are only a few details about the positions that will be eliminated in the United States. Those affected in these cases will have 90 days to find another new position and join it.
In the rest of the countries in which Amazon has workers, those affected will also have a period of time to be able to reintegrate into the company in other positions, but their duration will vary depending on the labor requirements of each country.
In the event that those affected do not want to apply for another position in the company, Amazon will offer them compensation, as well as an extension of their health benefits in the countries in which they are applicable, and the support of rehiring services. In parallel with these departures, Amazon has assured that they will continue to hire personnel for certain strategic areas and functions that the company considers critical for its future.
This is the second significant reduction in the company’s workforce, which A few months ago it laid off another 14,000 workers within the framework of a plan that included eliminate 30,000 positions internally. This round of layoffs is, therefore, the second part of said plan. In the statement confirming these departures, Galetti assures that the company’s plans do not involve making large staff reductions every few months, although each team will continue with its evaluations of capacity and work speed, as well as making the adjustments they deem appropriate for the future.
