is now available, and it brings some of the most significant camera changes the company has made in years.

OnePlus is positioning the OnePlus 15 as both a photography upgrade and a clean break from its past. Gone is the Hasselblad branding that defined earlier flagships — in its place comes OnePlus’ new DetailMax Engine: an in-house imaging pipeline designed to deliver better results than before.

The phone introduces a triple 50 MP rear camera system powered by this new DetailMax Engine. Together with a 32 MP selfie camera, 4K 120 fps Dolby Vision video recording, and enhanced night and motion algorithms, the OnePlus 15 marks OnePlus’ most ambitious camera system yet.

Important note:

According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 15’s U.S. release has been pushed back because the Federal Communications Commission cannot complete new device certifications during the current government shutdown. Although all required tests have been finished and the application is already filed, the company must wait for the FCC to reopen processing before sales can begin.OnePlus says it hopes for a quick turnaround once certifications resume and will make the device available to U.S. customers as soon as approval is granted. If you’re in the U.S., you can enter your email at OnePlus.com/us to be notified when sales start. Canadian availability remains unchanged, with the OnePlus 15 on sale today at OnePlus.com/ca_en.

How many cameras does the new OnePlus 15 have?

The OnePlus 15 features a triple rear camera system — a wide, an ultra-wide, and a telephoto — along with a single front-facing camera.

On the back, the lenses are arranged inside a new rectangular camera island tucked neatly into the top-left corner, replacing the circular design of past generations.

OnePlus 15 camera: How many megapixels is it?

The OnePlus 15 keeps the clean 50-megapixel theme across all three of its rear cameras but upgrades the sensors and lenses across the board.

Camera Sensor Resolution and Aperture Equivalent Focal Length Sensor Size Pixel Size Focus and Stabilization
Main (Wide) Sony IMX906 50 MP, f/1.8 24 mm (wide) 1/1.56″ 1.0 µm OIS, PDAF
Telephoto (Periscope) Samsung JN5 50 MP, f/2.8 80 mm (3.5x optical, 7x lossless, up to 120x digital) 1/2.76″ 0.64 µm OIS, PDAF
Ultra-wide (Doubles as macro camera with autofocus) Unknown 50 MP, f/2.0 16 mm, 116° FoV 1/2.88″ 0.61 µm PDAF
Front (Selfie) Sony IMX709 (RGBW) 32 MP, f/2.4 21 mm (wide) 1/2.74″ 0.8 µm Autofocus

OnePlus 15 camera upgrades:

3.5x periscope telephoto zoom

The telephoto camera now uses a 3.5x optical periscope lens, up from the 3x zoom on the previous model. Its 1/2.76-inch sensor and OIS help maintain clarity and contrast even when zooming further into distant subjects, while hybrid zoom shots benefit from the higher-quality base crop.

Improvements to the ultra-wide camera

The 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera offers a 116-degree field of view and a faster f/2.0 aperture for improved sharpness and more accurate color reproduction at the frame edges. It’s designed to better match the color tone and exposure of the main camera for a more unified look.

New DetailMax Engine replaces Hasselblad

For the first time in years, OnePlus has moved away from Hasselblad-branded tuning. The DetailMax Engine takes over image processing duties, combining HDR tone mapping, noise reduction, and shadow recovery into a single system. The goal is to produce photos that are more true to life, with finer detail and more natural look.

ProXDR Photo

ProXDR Photo enables HDR-grade displays of compatible photos across devices, giving images higher contrast and brightness when viewed on screens that support XDR.

Ultra HDR Video

The OnePlus 15 supports Ultra HDR Video, preserving bright highlights, richer contrast, and more lifelike lighting in compatible playback environments.

Improved video recording

The OnePlus 15’s camera hardware now supports:

  • 8K at 30 fps
  • 4K at 30/60/120 fps
  • 1080p at up to 240 fps

Video recording benefits from gyro-EIS, Auto HDR, and Dolby Vision support, while creators can preview LUTs directly in the camera app — a professional-grade addition that helps match color profiles before you hit record.

Upgraded selfie camera

The front camera gets a meaningful jump to 32 MP with a 1/2.74-inch sensor, autofocus, and support for 4K at 60 fps video recording. Improved HDR should help it perform better in backlit conditions, producing cleaner skin tones and more defined facial detail. OnePlus says it captures 60% more light,  allowing for sharper low-light selfies.

AI-assisted photo tools in OxygenOS 16

Alongside the hardware improvements, OnePlus continues to build out its AI editing suite in OxygenOS 16. The following tools enhance or simplify post-capture adjustments:

  • Detail Boost: Improves texture and clarity in complex scenes.
  • Unblur: Fixes motion blur in handheld or low-light shots.
  • Reflection Eraser: Removes glare and window reflections automatically.
  • LUT Preview: Lets you view applied color styles in real time while shooting video.

Action Button as a camera shortcut

Replacing the classic alert slider, the Action Button can now be mapped to camera-specific shortcuts — for instance, launching the Camera app, switching to Video mode, or taking a photo instantly with a long press. It’s a small but thoughtful tweak that turns the button into a quick-access tool for creators.
