OpenAI super app will include ChatGPT, Atlas and Codex

OpenAI is developing a “super app” for desktop computers, which aims unify the ChatGPT assistant, your Atlas web browser and the Codex encoder, in a single application.

The AI battle is not limited to large data centers and user experience at the customer level is vital to extend these technologies and show that They really are useful to improve productivity. An extreme that has simply not yet been demonstrated, although there are great differences in the quality of development and degree of implementation.

The OpenAI super app

OpenAI, after making its ChatGPT the most popular AI chatbot on the planet, is in tough competition with companies like Anthropic and Google to develop the best models and products. By unifying and accelerating the development of its desktop offering, OpenAI wants to gain a competitive advantage. Furthermore, it could extend the field of use of products like Atlas and Codex to a greater number of products, currently much less known than ChatGPT.

Announced by the Wall Street Journal, the ‘super application’ has been confirmed by the company in the mouth of its executive director of applications, Fidji Simo, who will be responsible for a high-profile development in which even the company’s president, Greg Brockman, will collaborate. OpenAI hired Simo (former CEO of Instacart) last spring to run its app business. The executive has been emphasizing the focus on product and discipline, while the company prepares for a possible IPO, which could occur this year.

In an internal memo to employees, Simo explained the motivations for the OpenAI super app: “We realized that we were spreading our efforts across too many apps and platforms, and that we needed to simplify our efforts. “This fragmentation has been slowing us down and making it difficult to achieve the level of quality we desire.”. OpenAI’s super app aims to reduce fragmentation and speed up development against rivals like Google, surely the most advanced when it comes to transferring AI technologies to the end user.

That said, the applications that are intended to be integrated are quite different, so It will be interesting to see how OpenAI does it. If ChatGPT enjoys enormous popularity, the Atlas web browser is much more relegated in usage share and AI browsers have not yet managed to overtake standard browsers, which are also incorporating artificial intelligence functions. On the other hand, Codex, the coding software, is even newer and lesser known.
