The newest version of the Opera One browser improves on the interesting Tab Islands feature, brings a re-engineered AI assistant, and adds theme-specific soundscapes. Here are the details.
Update offers ’a beautiful visual and auditory experience’
Following last month’s official launch of the AI-powered browser Opera Neon and continuing Opera’s “tradition to gradually improve the browser and for it to be reborn each year,” the Norwegian company is turning its attention back to its flagship browser with the launch of Opera One R3.
The update rolling out today will let users color-code their Tab Islands, which is Opera One’s automated spin on the concept of tab groups. Now, users will have the option to choose from 9 different colors and assign specific names to each Tab Island, making it even easier to manage multiple projects and browsing sessions.

The Opera One R3 update also features Opera Neon’s agentic AI engine, which improves performance on AI-related tasks up to 20%. Interestingly, Opera AI can understand Tab Islands, offering context-aware responses without mixing information across groups.
Here’s Opera on this feature:
Opera browser AI has the capability of using the current open tab (or Tab Island) to provide answers based on the context of those tabs, meaning that the responses from the AI don’t mix up contexts – users can turn this feature off in the chat.
Opera also says that Opera AI can understand YouTube videos, allowing users to ask questions about the content.
Finally, Opera One R3 features three new dynamic themes: Radiance, Orbit, and Sonic. While Radiance and Orbit feature R3’s overall new look and feature dedicated soundscapes, Sonic was created in partnership with Spotify, and reacts to the songs being played on Opera’s in-browser player.

Opera One R3 is rolling out today with deeper Google services integration, bringing Gmail and Google Calendar to the sidebar, alongside a new early bird mode. It folds the beta program into the main browser. Users who activate early bird mode will get access to experimental features, such as four-way split screen.
