After 11 years as CEO of Oracle, Safra Catz is going to leave his position to two CEOs to become executive vice president of the company’s Board of Directors. Clay Magouyrk and Mike Sicilyuntil now presidents of Oracle, they are chosen to happen.
Magouyrk entered Oracle in 2014 from AWS, and was one of the founders of the company’s cloud engineering team. He has been president of the company’s infrastructure business division for more than a decade, and has been responsible for the supervision of the design and implementation of the second generation of OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
As for Sicily, he held so far the presidency of the Oracle Industry Division, in charge of both AI and Inference. Before he was in different leadership positions within the company, and has experience in vertical applications and applied. He entered it in 2008, after the purchase of spring Systems, dedicated to the management of project portfolios.
Both, now as CEOs, will continue to collaborate in the creation and deployment of complete suites of AI applications for different sectors of the industry, starting from the AI database and the cloud infrastructure of Oracle.
These appointments mark the infrastructure for AI as one of Oracle’s main lines of work in the future, a field in which it has started working a few months ago, starting from the base it already has in the Cloud infrastructure. This step to AI as an area of interest in its infrastructure groups was revealed a few months ago, with its participation in the Stargate project, focused on the development of data and infrastructure centers for AI in the United States, together with Openai and Softbank.
In addition, earlier this month signed an agreement with OpenAI to supply said company 300,000 million dollars in computer power, and only a few days ago, signed a more modest agreement, of 20,000 million dollars, with goal.
The two new CEOs of Oracle have stood out in a joint statement that are «Very excited to lead Oracle in the AI era, in which technological innovation gives rise to extraordinary business opportunities and hyperchroad. Our combined strengths in AI, cloud infrastructure, horizontal applications and industrial applications will allow Oracle to offer our customers’ latest capabilities to our customers«.
As to Safra Catz, from now Executive Vice President of the Board of Directors of Oraclerecalled that «At present, Oracle is recognized as the preferred cloud for both the training and the inference of AI. Oracle’s technology and business have never been so solid. And our impressive growth rate points to an even more prosperous future. This moment of strength is the right time to pass the position of executive director to the next generation of competent executives«.
