GREEN Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur was seen in a confrontation with a Detroit Lions fan on his own sideline.
And LaFleur accused the fan of making throat slit gestures towards his players.
The supporter was on the field to hold the flag during the national anthem just prior to kickoff at Ford Field.
As he made his way off, he apparently said something towards the Packers sideline which LaFleur didn’t like.
The Green Bay coach then approached the fan and they exchanged words momentarily.
Packers players and coaches then intervened and separated the pair.
LaFleur was asked about the incident in his postgame press conference.
“I’ve never been a part of something like that,” LaFleur said.
“He was talking junk to our players and giving them the throat slash sign.
“You’re trying to deescalate it and then he gets in my face.”
The Packers coach added, “I thought it was pretty unsportsmanlike. I’ve never seen that.
“I’ve been on many fields and usually they police that much better.
“I thought it was an arrogant fan who wanted to get part of the action.
“I would like to see security step in and get him out of there because he shouldn’t be doing that.”
The incident began an action-packed game which Detroit edged.
The Lions improved to 12-1 and took control of the NFC North division with their 34-31 win.
Detroit went for it late on 4th and 1, and set up a game-winning field goal for Jake Bates from 35 yards as time expired.
Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes – two of them to Tim Patrick.
“This will be one of those you’ll never forget,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said.
“I just felt like we needed to end it on offense.
“I did not want to give the ball back and I believed we could convert. I trust the O-line. I trust David.”
Josh Jacobs ran in three touchdowns for Green Bay in a losing effort as they slipped to 9-4.
