Patriot Software Payroll is affordable, thorough and well designed. The software has no problems making employee records, process wage runs and to submit wage taxes for companies that employ 10 or even 100 employees. We also like that that the latest version multi-company access, new contractor sports, a new employee app and direct payments for the financing of payroll. All these aspects make Payroll a valuable option for small companies that want to keep costs low and do not have extensive HR needs. However, if your business requirements go further, you must take into account the winners of our editors, including ADP-Run because of his ability to grow with your company, Gusto for his classes of leading design and OnPay for the exceptional value.
Prices and subscription plans: low operating costs
The basic version of Patriot, for which you have to submit wage taxes yourself, costs $ 17 per month, plus $ 4 per employee per month. The full -service layer ($ 37 per month, plus $ 5 per employee per month) processes related taxes and includes a reliability guarantee for tax returns. A trial period of 30 days is available, as well as a fully functional demo for both desktop and mobile. Patriot software charges extra for HR and Time & Attendance Add-ons (each is $ 6 per month, plus $ 2 per employee per month). Most other payroll administration software includes that functionality with the standard subscription price.
Despite those extra costs, Patriot Software Payroll is still one of the most affordable payroll administration I have tested. Onpay ($ 49 per month, plus $ 6 per employee per month) and ($ 35 per month, plus $ 6 per employee per month) both cost more. ($ 85 per month, plus $ 9 per employee per month) and Gusto Plus ($ 80 per month, plus $ 12 per employee per month) are even more expensive.
Patriot software offers an integrated accounting application (Patriot Accounting) such as Quickbooks Payroll (Quickbooks Online), although it is not that capable. However, if it handles all your business needs, you must consider adding it for $ 20 (base) or $ 30 (premium) per month.
Interface and ease of use: simple design
The Setup Wizard from Patriot Software Payroll describes what you need to do prior to your first payroll. It also offers links to useful sources, such as how you can get a state unemployment number (SUTA). Just like other salary advice software companies, Patriot software Payroll experts makes available to help you with the installation, which you may need for complex tasks such as importing wage historical history. With a new access function for several companies you can use a single set of login details to manage the payroll for multiple companies.
I have always loved Payroll’s user experience. It is the simplest, most intuitive wage lists that I have partially assessed, because it does not have all the functions and flexibility of competitors. The design is not flashy, but pages are attractive, easy to understand and spacious. Pages are also improving quickly. You must appreciate all these aspects, regardless of whether you are a beginner or an experienced pay manager.
In addition to the extensive help you can get during installation, you can contact Patriot software for free via Chat, E -mail or telephone. Excellent step -by -step manuals for using the application are also available.
Employee records: lots of detail
Making employee records is simple but time -intensive. These thorough profiles contain displacements and contributions (Patriot software does not act as a benefit agent, in contrast to Gusto and others), wage options, personal data and W-4 information. You can easily access all this information from the homepage of an employee, who is actually a collection of pages that offers any details about a different element of payroll and HR. Employees can add details to their profiles via an online portal. Not everyone offers this zoning pages of the employees, and Patriot software are among the most detailed I have seen.
Perform payroll: all standard options
I love the way Patriot handles Payroll, wage runs, of which you can walk as much as you want. The software supports all wage frequencies and you can pay groups of employees in different schedules. You can also pay employees for multiple roles (maximum five) in the same wage run. The site offers flexibility in a critical environment: entry types (Patriot -software bubbles these hours and applies). Here you will find the adaptability that competitors lack. Depending on the type, you may be able to change the factor that uses the software to calculate the income, to create a new description for payroll and reports, indicate which you often use and follow non-tuned hours and leisure time.
All employees, both in paid employment and per hour, appear on the first page of a payroll, together with contractors (although you can pay them separately if you want). If you pay for the time and presence of Patriot Software, the software automatically fills in hours. If you don’t, you must enter them manually.
It is a challenge to list all hours of a company (such as regular, overtime and vacation) and applies (such as bonus and committee) on one page. If you have to see more options for a specific payment run, a switch reveals them. Or maybe you just have to scroll horizontally to view them all. With the app you can change the wage rates immediately. You cannot view employee records in the middle of a payment run as you can with OnPay and others, but it is possible to save your submissions in case you have to leave and view them. Some alternatives do not even offer the last function.
After entering all hours of employees and contractors, go to the Payroll Preview page. This offers a thorough breakdown of your wage run before approving it. WayCheck -Information of employees is available in detail per category, such as offices, hours and income and taxes. You can view these details directly on the page and also download them as a PDF file. Your operating costs for the wage run will also appear here, including deduction of employees and taxes and employer contributions and taxes. The interface shows this information after you have approved the payroll, together with your wage tax account and a check -up.
If you quickly have to finance a payroll (such as at the last minute) and you use direct deposit to pay employees, you can now take advantage of direct payments that will immediately move your money from a bank account to Patriot Payroll via a real -time payment (RTP) network.
Reports: only the basics
The reports from Patriot Payroll are not as adjustable as those of ADP Run, but they treat the possibilities of the site sufficiently. You can perform, print and export reports in multiple categories, such as 1099 contractors, HR, payroll tax and wage tax and the end of the year. Individual reports include checked retail, offices and contributions, payroll obligations for payroll taxes and an example of the current payroll. The app also offers a W-2-example report and ensures the preparation and submission of W-2 and 1099.
HR -Tools: Limited
Most Payroll website providers have expanded their HR tools in recent years, but Patriot Software Payroll offers very little in this area. What it offers, such as basic tools for document management, costs extra, as stated. These tools help you meet some national and federal regulations, although they are not nearly as extensive and seamless as they get in the Gusto compliance center. Patriot Software Payroll at least offers an excellent page for every state that helps you to understand and satisfy the registration requirement. Federal new lease obligations are also available.
Is Patriot Software Payroll safe to use?
Patriot Software says it uses a diverse series of technologies to protect your data. It claims to implement policy that guarantees the correct installation and maintenance of these technologies. Third -party audits check whether the company meets industrial standards. (You can request these by contacting the company.) The service requires multi-factor authentication.
Mobile experience: works great on phones
With Patriot Software Payroll you can access the site via a mobile browser. The mobile version of the site looks largely and works like the desktop version, which means that it is attractive and user -friendly. The company does particularly good job when designing data-heavy pages such as employee profiles for smaller screens. You can do everything on your phone that you can go on the desktop, including making and downloading reports and performing a payroll.
However, Patriot software offers a new employees -app. My Patriot (available for Android and iOS) has employees in and out of punching, submitting time cards for payroll administration, following work and time-off hours and viewing current and historic payrolls. This combination of tools and data must serve employees well, but it is not as extensive as the Workforce app from QuickBooks Payroll, which, for example, offers access to W-2’s and impact information.
