NANCY Pelosi has underwent hip replacement surgery after being rushed to hospital after a fall.
The former US House speaker was seen clinging to a fellow lawmaker as she fell down a marble staircase in Luxembourg.
Pelosi, 84, was airlifted by the US military to a hospital in Germany after she fractured her hip.
She was initially rushed to local hospital in Luxembourg for an emergency evaluation.
The California Democrat was said to have underwent a “successful” operation.
Her spokesperson said: “Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend.”
The incident happened while the Democrat was attending an official event on Friday.
She had traveled with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the World War Two Battle of the Bulge.
Pelosi’s future events on the trip had to be canceled due to her injury.
The Democrat praised doctors and said she received “excellent care”, according to her spokesperson.
They added that Pelosi “looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon”.
