THE Philadelphia Phillies found a way to beat the Boston Red Sox due to a stunning MLB rule.

Fans were in shock over the historically bizarre ending of the MLB game.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Red Sox relief pitcher Jordan Hicks loaded the bases with nobody out.

The count was 1-2 on Phillies second baseman Edmundo Sosa when Hicks threw a slider off the plate to the batter.

Sosa appeared to check his swing, but the Phillies elected to challenge the play for the rare catcher’s interference rule.

If a catcher’s glove interferes with the batter’s swing, the batter is awarded first base, and any runners on base advance only if forced to do so by the batter’s advance.

Sosa’s bat struck the glove of catcher Carlos Narvaez, and after a replay review, the call on the field was reversed, changing it to catcher’s interference, which gave the Phillies a walk-off 3-2 win.

It was the first time since 1971 that a game was ended by a catcher’s interference call.

Social media users were blown away by the unusual extra-inning win.

“That’s a new one,” one commented.

“I have to admit that I’ve never seen this in my entire life!” another wrote.

“It’s the beauty of the game. You’ve never seen it all!!” a third said.

“Crazy way to walk it off!” a fourth added.

The Philadelphia crowd at Citizens Bank Ballpark went berserk over the ending.

Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy gave a simple three-word reaction to the call.

“Baseball is amazing,” the NBC Philadelphia broadcaster said as Brandon Marsh scored the winning run.

The Phillies didn’t put a single ball in play in the 10th inning to earn the victory.

Boston has been called for seven catcher interferences this season, which leads the MLB.

The third-place Red Sox have lost three of their four games since the All-Star break.

They’ll look to bounce back against the NL-East leading Phillies on Tuesday night.
