PLAYSTATION’s State of Play wrapped up last night, featuring announcements for more than 20 games coming to the PS5 and PS VR2.
A surprise reveal during the 30-minute presentation saw one of the most popular games of 2024 release on Sony’s platform.
Palworld, which launched in February as an Xbox console exclusive, has finally made its way to the PS5, and fans can already start playing on Sony’s console.
The release doesn’t come as a complete surprise, as teasers about Palworld coming to PlayStation were posted back in June.
What’s surprising, though, is that the game released immediately after the State of Play announcement.
While players in the UK, US, and many other countries can now purchase and play the game on PS5, Japanese PlayStation owners won’t be getting it today.
The release of Palworld for PS5 in Japan has been postponed indefinitely, as developer Pocketpair confirmed in a post on Twitter/X.
According to Pocketpair, the release date for Palword in Japan is yet to be determined, but the company assures PS5 fans that its staff is working to deliver the game as soon as possible.
No reason was provided in the post, but a recent lawsuit by Pokémon and Nintendo over alleged patent infringements against Pocketpair may have contributed to this delay.
In other countries, Palworld is already available to download on PS5 and is priced at £24.49 / $29.99 on the PlayStation Store.
Unlike Xbox where the game can be played at no additional cost via Xbox Game Pass, Palworld is not included in PlayStation Plus, so PS5 players will need to buy it.
As Palworld is still a game in development, features like full crossplay and crossplatform saves are not yet available.
This means that you cannot continue your saved games from another platform on the PS5, and you can only play with friends who also have Palworld on a PS5.
Despite controversies surrounding Palworld’s alledged similarities with Pokémon, the game offers a great gameplay mix between monster-catching and survival crafting elements.

Since launch, the game has received several big updates, adding more features, such as pals to catch, places to go, and things to build.
The latest major update, Palworld Sakurajima, added a new explorable area, a new raid boss, player-vs-player mode, and more.
