Swedish EV brand Polestar has closed its last direct-operated store in China, located at Shanghai’s Qiantan L+Plaza, according to Chinese media outlet Blue Whale Auto. The company confirmed the move, saying it is “strategically adjusting its business model” to better align with China’s fast-changing consumer market. Polestar added that the closure will not affect its other operations in China or existing owners’ rights, and that sales are now primarily conducted online.

Earlier reports suggested Polestar sold only 69 vehicles in China during the first half of 2025, with no new car sales recorded in April and May. Some media outlets have speculated that the automaker may exit the Chinese market by year-end. [Blue Whale Auto, in Chinese]
