Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

While it’s probably natural that smartphone design has slowly homogenized into the most efficient yet bland designs, it really is a shame from an enthusiast’s perspective.

Android phones are slowly starting to look like iPhones. It’s incredibly difficult to tell various Android phones apart from a distance, and, in some cases, even when they’re in the hand. Some OEMs have drawn plenty of inspiration from iOS for their skins, too. But what do readers think?

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

We asked you what you thought about these Android phones that tend to ape the design and feel of iPhones. Find your thoughts below.

Unsurprisingly, our readers are rather opinionated about the intersection of Android and iPhones. This is reflected in the vote total, which breezed past 4,500. What’s interesting, though, is the vote share.

Just under 45% of surveyed readers “hate this trend” of Android devices morphing slowly into iPhones.

Reader gotdeskrieges believes this problem is down to returns:

The problem is Apple sells more phones than anyone else, I hate apple personally but in the competitive world Android manufacturers will copy the design because whatever Apple does, sadly, sells.

Surprisingly, 11% of voters actually like this trend, suggesting that Android OEMs do have a valid reason to trend towards flat edges and curved corners.

The remaining portion of users claim that they “don’t care.” I’m largely in the camp, but only because I care more about that specification sheet and feature-richness than physical design.

Other commenters concur. “I personally don’t care,” writes reader capt.anrrow1847. “I actually like having the feel of an iPhone and the features of Android, because you sometimes get the best of both worlds.”

Of course, this isn’t the end of this conversation. If you have particularly strong feelings about Android devices that resemble iPhones, or whether the trend is acceptable or abhorrent, let us know in the comments section below.
