Following last month’s Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS beta and COSMIC desktop beta, System76 has now shared their stable release plans for this long-awaited LInux distribution release with their Rust-written custom desktop.

System76 founder and CEO, Carl Richell, announced today they are planning to officially release Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS on 11 December along with the COSMIC Epoch 1 desktop.

Carl posted on X:

“Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS and COSMIC Epoch 1 will be release December 11th, 2025.

Future Pop!_OS releases, starting with Pop!_OS 26.04 LTS, will now align with the Ubuntu LTS release timing (approximately two weeks after the Ubuntu release date).”

Pop!_OS 24.04 has been a long time coming due to delays and ongoing development around the COSMIC desktop. It’s great to see that Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS with COSMIC will officially ship this year. With Ubuntu 24.04 LTS already due out in April, it won’t be too long after that to then see Pop!_OS 26.04 LTS.
