What is Electronic Arts’ plan with the Sims license? While the series has just celebrated its 25th anniversary (in 2025), we had lots of hopes on the future of the saga. Alas, it seems that the next few months don’t be very optimistic.

It was going well though. With the announcement du Project ReneElectronic Arts prepared us for the arrival of Sims 5. Unfortunately, the game was canceled. THE Project Rene therefore became a side projectwho was to propose a multiplayer experience. Unfortunately, the first images were far from promising. Despite everything, fans continued to maintain hope, to the point where the American publisher had to confirm, once again, the cancellation of The Sims 5.

Today, Electronic Arts shares with us new official information on the Project Rene. Now the game has become a social multiplayer game for mobile.

Project Rene: From Sims 5 to a simple mobile game

Last year, the first images leaked onto the web, leading us to assume that the Project Rene would become a mobile gamemuch less ambitious than at the start. Today, these fears are officially confirmed via a press release from Electronic Arts.

On its official website, the American publisher shares new information on this new experience. From now on, the Project Rene is a social multiplayer game for mobile.

“With constant feedback from players, Project Rene has evolved to focus on social multiplayer gaming, giving friends a more direct way to share their creativity together. This game is not a sequel to The Sims 4 and offers an experience distinct from any future single-player life simulation. It introduces a new way to explore and play together within the Sims universe, and welcomes players who want to interact directly with other people.”

Obviously, the ambitions of the game and the saga have been downward reviews. It is now quite difficult to know where the saga is heading. The Sims 4 will they still be able to keep the players busy for many months et several years ? Games, like inZoi or Paralives (expected for May 2026), will they manage to dethrone the master of simulation? Will Electronic Arts reconsider its decision by finally offering a Sims 5 ? For the moment, impossible to say.
