“I want to find and kill the people who killed my wife.” 20th Century Studios takes a simple but proven recipe, the Disney subsidiary devotes itself to the exercise of the spy story tinged with drama. In the vein of John Wickand with a role that recalls Mr. Robot for Rami Malek, The Amateur wants to boost spring in cinemas. A few months before its release, the film received a first trailer. The opportunity for spectators to discover what this project has in store. The story is quite simple.
A CIA cryptographer discovers that his wife was killed during a terrorist attack in London. Convinced that his hierarchy is not doing everything possible to find the culprits, this man who works daily behind a screen, decides to follow a special training and become a killing machine. Now on the trail of his wife’s killers, he embarks on a dangerous journey around the world. Driven by his desire for revenge, he will put all his intelligence at the service of his mission.
The Amateur draws its inspiration from a work by Robert Littel which was itself adapted from a screenplay. In 1981, the American author collaborated with Diana Maddox to write a film for Charles Jarrott. The Man from Prague also tells the story of a CIA cryptographer who blackmails his superiors to be sent to Czechoslovakia. With the Cold War as a backdrop, the film and the book adapted from the screenplay describe the journey of this man who found behind the “Iron Curtain” by being insufficiently trained and unsupported. This historical context seems to have been erased to fit into a contemporary era. Some important locations in the plot still remain relevant, starting with Prague which is mentioned several times in the trailer.
A great distribution
Rami Malek takes over the role formerly given to John Savage. The American actor revealed by Mr. Robot will here respond to Rachel Brosnahan, Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), John Bernthal (The Punisher) and above all Laurence Fishburne. All these beautiful people will evolve in front of the camera James Hawes. The British filmmaker has already encountered the world of espionage since he directed several episodes of the Slow Horses series. In theaters, he directed Anthony Hopkins in A Life released earlier this year. This time he adapts a screenplay by Evan Katz and Gary Spinelli. Finally, Volker Bertelmann composed the original music. The appointment with The Amateur is made for next April 9 at the cinema.
