Ray-Ban Meta glasses just got a big upgrade: 9 new features to try now

We were pretty satisfied with the Ray-Ban Meta (gen 2) glasses when they dropped in October, but Meta keeps adding features thanks to Meta AI and software updates. Meta just released version 21.0 of its AI glasses software, with the update adding nine new features for the Ray-Ban smart glasses in addition to the the Oakley Meta HSTN and Oakley Meta Vanguard models.

As detailed in the Meta AI glasses release notes, seven of the features work with both Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses, with two specifically aimed at the Vanguards.

Here’s what’s new for your Meta glasses:

You may like

  • Find device: The Find Device feature will remember where the Meta AI app last connected to your glasses. Turn on Find Device in settings then Privacy & Security. You should see the last connected location on a map
  • Hyperlapse: Capture up to 30 minutes of video in hyperlapse mode that plays back as a smooth, sped-up clip. Start recordings by saying, “Hey Meta, start hyperlapse.”
  • Slow motion: Record up to 1 minute of slow motion action by saying “Hey Meta, start slow motion.”
  • Adjustable stabillization: In video settings, you can control how much stabilization is applied to videos or automate it with auto-select. Adjust in device settings, then media and video settings.
  • Video sharing: Share recent 15-second or less videos directly to Instagram or Facebook by saying “Hey Meta, share that video (or last) to Facebook (or Instagram).”

  • Athlete Intelligence: Oakley Vanguard owners can now connect to their Garmin device, Apple Health app, Google Health Account or Strava account. Meta AI will track any workouts and provide stats and insights. Autocapture automatically takes video clips based on your stats and milestones. Meta says this will come to other glasses gradually.
  • Garmin Workout Creation: Combine a supported Garmin device and Meta AI to create custom workouts. For example, you can say “Create a 1 hour bike ride targeting 20 miles per hour.” Create bike or run workouts with duration or distance targets with optional targets like heart rate, pace or cadence.
  • Meta AI and Spotify: Meta AI will create a playlist with Spotify based on what you’re seeing in the world. For example, you could say, “Hey Meta, play a song to go with my view.” This feature is only available in English and is limited to Spotify.
  • Music apps language expansion: You can now speak French, German, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese to control your music from apps like Amazon Music, Apple Music, Shazam or Spotify.
  • Voice shortcuts: This is the other feature only available on Oakley Vanguards. Voice shortcuts let active users and athletes quickly interact with the glasses without saying “Hey Meta.” You can set a single word to trigger commands. The shortcuts can be paired with a Garmin device and an activated “Activity.”

Meta’s AI glasses software update version 21.0 is available now. If you’re interested in any of these features, you’ll want to update your glasses and make sure the Meta AI app has been updated to the latest version.

You can update your glasses in the Meta AI app by tapping the glasses icon followed by the settings gear. Then hit Updates, where you can toggle on automatic updates or check for updates.
