Lara Croft is back soon. And, no, unfortunately, we don’t talk about video games yet Tomb Raider which has been overdue for far too long and which even tends to worry us. We are of course talking about the LIVE Action series which is currently in preparation at Amazon Prime.
Like the game, this series was long overdue and it was clearly thought that the project was canceled. But no, Amazon has confirmed actress Sophie Turner in the role of the famous adventurerand gives us an appointment early 2026 for the filming of the series.

At the beginning of February, the filming of the series Tomb Raider on Amazon Prime has officially started. We were able to discover a first glimpse of Sophie Turner in the skin of Lara Croft. On the other hand, we can see that these first sequences show us a Lara, with an outfit from the game Tomb Raider Legend (in 2006). In the first shots, we can see that Sophie Turner’s outfit is very detailed, the latter combines elements from all eras of the saga. Obviously, the attention to detail is very present and this new Lara will not only focus on the new game.

The start of production and filming of the LIVE Action series Tomb Raider is planned for January 19, 2026. At the moment, we don’t know more. No broadcast date and no filming location.
Sophie Turner to play Lara Croft

Amazon reveals first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. A Lara clearly inspired by the 90s (and the games Tomb Raider III and Tomb Raider IV) with the iconic outfit, turquoise tank top, brown mini-shorts, round red glasses and backpack! A Lara who is also close to the new Lara Croft in the games Tomb Raider: Legacy Of The Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst which will be linked to the series. After several months of rumors, Amazon confirmed in September 2025 that it was the actress Sophie Turner who would have the difficult task of succeeding Angelina Jolie or Alicia Vikander for play Lara Croft.
Sophie Turner was seen notably in the series Game of Thrones for her role as Sansa Stark between 2011 and 2019 on HBO. The 29-year-old actress says “absolutely delighted to play Lara Croft” although she is aware that these are “huge shoes to wear” to “follow in the footsteps of Angelina and Alicia with their extraordinary performances”.

This week, on the official website of the production company Story-Kitchen (which will be responsible for the series Tomb Raider), we were able to learn a little more about the project. Obviously the series will be closely related to video games. Although the site does not specify whether the latter will be linked to the next games Tomb Raider which are currently in development, or whether it will be linked to old games.
More precisely, the production company specifies that the LIVE Action series of Tomb Raider will propose « an independent story since it will be connected to that of the video games ». Before adding that the series « will reinvent the franchise on a grand scale, interconnecting a new live-action television series and video games into a unified narrative universe ».
Although nothing is specified, knowing that the series and the next game are produced by Amazon, there is a good chance that the latter are linked.
As of today (December 2, 2025), no official information on the history of the series. We don’t know if this will be an original story or if the series will adapt one (or more) of Lara Croft’s adventures into a video game.
Who is responsible for producing the series?
The project is led by Amazon (MGM Studios) and Crystal Dynamics. The series will logically be broadcast on Amazon Prime. At the moment we only know that it is Phoebe Waller-Bridge who will lead the project, while also being screenwriter, executive producer and co-showrunner. At his side we find Jonathan Van Tulleken as director and executive producer. As well as Chad Hodge who will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Do you have to have played the Tomb Raider games to enjoy this series?
No, absolutely not. The series will be accessible even to people who don’t know the universe of Tomb Raider. Since the release of the first game in 1996, the series has experienced several trilogies which took place in different settings.
Concretely, Tomb Raider it is the story of an adventurer, Lara Croft, who solves mysteries around legends that can harm the world.
Over the course of the trilogies, the Lore has been refined with the arrival of secondary characters. In any case, this series will allow without difficulty for newbies to discover the story of Lara Croft, even without having played the games.
Will this LIVE Action series be an adaptation of a specific game?

According to the media Deadline, in addition to Sophie Turner (in the main role of Lara Croft) and the actress Sigourney Weaver, the Amazon Prime series Tomb Raider should offer the services of actor Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Armageddon, Sweet November, The Fall of the Black Hawk, The Wite Lotus…) for a role still kept secret.
