Earlier this month, reMarkable – the company behind one of the most iconic paper tablets on the market – announced a new, smaller version of the reMarkable Paper Pro. It’s called reMarkable Paper Pro Move, and despite being a much smaller device, it truly does still feel flagship. It fits in the palm of your hand.

I spent plenty of time with the full-sized reMarkable Paper Pro over the first couple months of this year, and I felt that it was a great device. Though it had one major caveat: price. It was simply expensive.

Another issue for some people was how big it was. I didn’t personally take issue with this since having a paper-sized canvas makes a lot of sense for what it is, but I can see why someone would want it to be smaller. The larger reMarkable Paper Pro could definitely be a lot to carry around, especially if you aren’t someone who regularly uses a backpack.

reMarkable Paper Pro Move solves both of those problems. It’s significantly smaller, with it being much closer in size to an iPhone 17 Pro Max than it is to an 11-inch iPad. It’s also cheaper, coming in at $499 with the Marker Plus, compared to $679 for the reMarkable Paper Pro with the Marker Plus. That’s nearly $200 less.

What’s different?

Compared to the full sized reMarkable Paper Pro, you don’t miss out on much. You keep the same excellent Marker Plus with great responsiveness and an eraser on the bottom, a great Color Canvas panel with 20,000 colors, the same adjustable reading light, and the same super sharp glare-free display. You keep the same incredible 2 week battery life as well.

The main differences are, well, it’s smaller. It packs a 7.3-inch display compared to the larger 11.8-inch display. It also has to be slightly thicker to fit all of the same tech into a much smaller device, so it comes in at 6.5mm – versus 5.1mm on the larger model. Is this noticeable? Not really, but it is a trade-off nonetheless. There also isn’t the option to have an official keyboard folio from reMarkable, since it’s too small to offer a good keyboard.

Lastly, as a benefit of its smaller battery, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move charges even faster, gaining 90% in less than 45 minutes, versus 90 minutes on the larger model. That’s a great benefit for someone quickly running around different places.

My thoughts

I will say, I have found myself carrying the Paper Pro Move around a lot more, since the form factor makes it a lot more portable. It’s awesome for quickly sketching out an idea, writing things down, taking notes during a meeting, or doodling for fun at a desk.

With the smaller screen, I’d almost say it makes more sense to utilize the device in landscape, purely because your lines will be longer and you’ll have more room to write out sentences. Luckily, reMarkable’s software does a great job scaling across both orientations, so you shouldn’t have a problem doing this.

Just like its bigger brother, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move is excellent for those who want to focus. Sure, you could just use an iPad mini, but I actually think there’s a compelling reason to have a dedicated device for note-taking.

For one, it simply does it better than an iPad + Apple Pencil could, but also it makes it much easier to block out distractions. You won’t be getting notified on here, and you sure as hell won’t be texting or opening TikTok from the reMarkable Paper Pro Move.

Given the more recent trend of schools (and even some college professors) wanting to ban phones and other internet-connected devices from the classroom, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move (and the larger reMarkable Paper Pro) makes a lot of sense for someone who still values having the best digital note taking experience.

Wrap up

All in all, great things can come in small packages, and the reMarkable Paper Pro Move is one of them. It truly feels like an uncompromising experience compared to the larger reMarkable Paper Pro, and it’s deserving of its naming.

I do wish it was called something else so I didn’t have to now say “the larger reMarkable Paper Pro”, but I do understand why the company chose to include ‘Pro’ in the name of the smaller model – its a testament to how strong of a device this is. It offers the same great software and hardware experience of the larger model, just scaled down to a smaller form factor – and the team did a great job.

Also, the new Woven Book Folio looks and feels incredible. I certainly appreciate nicely made fabric tech accessories, and this is no exception.
