Report: Johny Srouji contemplating leaving Apple, considering career elsewhere – 9to5Mac

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple’s hardware technologies SVP Johny Srouji is ‘seriously’ considering leaving the company. He’s most known for leading the charge on Apple Silicon. If he does end up leaving, he’ll reportedly take his talents to another company.

In recent years, Apple Silicon has taken massive strides. We’ve had the Mac transition to Apple Silicon, as well as in-house transitions for both the cellular modem and Wi-Fi/bluetooth chip, with both the C1 and N1 chips debuting in various Apple products this year. These developments are largely thanks to Johny Srouji’s leadership.

However, the executive is now considering leaving Apple for another company, reports Bloomberg:

Johny Srouji — senior vice president of hardware technologies and one of Apple’s most respected executives — recently told Cook that he is seriously considering leaving in the near future, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Srouji, the architect of Apple’s prized in-house chips effort, has informed colleagues that he intends to join another company if he ultimately departs.

The report also mentions that he isn’t leaving for retirement, and it would instead be for a career shift.

To retain him, Apple has offered him ‘substantial’ pay packages and more responsibilities. They’ve floated the possibility of promoting him to Chief Technology Officer, making him Apple’s second most powerful executive. Reportedly, Srouji also ‘would prefer not to work under a different CEO.’

If this ends up being the case, this would be the fifth high profile Apple executive to depart in such a short period of time. Design lead Alan Dye, AI chief John Giannandrea, general counsel Kate Adams, and environment/policy VP Lisa Jackson all announced their transitions this week.

This is all part of a massive reorganization going on at Apple, likely to prepare the company for Tim Cook’s eventual retirement as CEO. Bloomberg’s report also mentions that retail chief Dierdre O’Brien and marketing SVP Greg Joswiak are also likely to retire in the coming future, given their 35-40 year tenures at the company.
