For once, autumn arrives with its share of rain. Before rushing under a blanket to hope that the winter period will pass more quickly, the month of October is the occasion for some administrative changes. Here’s what you shouldn’t miss in the coming weeks.
Good news for small pensions
Last month, the pensions of around a million former employees, traders or craftsmen were increased, up to €100 gross monthly. The precise figures and scales were communicated a few weeks ago, and will be retroactive. So don’t panic for latecomers. The measure to revalue small pensions, enacted as part of the April 2023 pension reform, officially came into force last year, on September 1, 2023. While 600,000 retirees benefited immediately from this increase in their retirement pension, a million had to be patient.
From October 1, the rest of the people concerned who have not yet been subject to regularization will in turn be increased, for an average of €50.94 per month.
APLs increase
The good news does not only concern seniors. In October, students and precarious workers will also be able to benefit from a little extra help. From October 1. APLs are revalued according to “of the evolution of the rent reference index for the second quarter of the current year“. The increases will be depending on the city of residencetheir level of resources, but also their family situation. You will therefore have to refer to the new grids to find out your exact increase.
For all beneficiaries, however, there is good news from the community: payment of housing assistance will be made on October 4 this month, compared to the usual 5.
The Price of gas on the rise
It’s not just retirement and housing assistance that are increasing. The price of gas is also seeing a slight increase. It goes from €130.21 to €137.2 per megawatt hour, an increase of 5.37%. A new hard blow for the purchasing power of households, which risks maintaining its upward trend for some time, warns the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE).
Faced with this new energy inflation, the CRE advises adopting a few simple actions to limit energy loss: opt for thick curtains, close your shutters at night, or avoid overheating rarely used rooms. Sobriety will still be required this winter.
It’s time for vaccines
The arrival of winter also means the start of flu vaccination campaigns. From October 15, between 2 and 6 million people are expected to protect themselves from winter illnesses, the vast majority of whom are over 65 years old. We remind you that among the people most at risk, the chronically ill, pregnant, obese and immunocompromised people are the most affected by this type of seasonal virus.
Savings will bring in less
The ECB’s drop in interest rates is not good news if you are savers. If the rate of regulated passbooks (livret A, LDDS, LEP) is guaranteed until 2025, that of unregulated accounts will start to decline from October 1. Allow around 10% monthly drop depending on the banks, reports the site francetransactions.com.
We’re moving on to winter time
Last change and not the least, that of the transition to winter time. To avoid night falling without warning, the French will change their time during the night of Saturday October 26 to Sunday October 27. Don’t forget to set the time when you wake up.
