RING is rolling out a massive upgrade that will let you “scan” your video footage to find exact moments.

The AI-powered trick lets you search for anything from your smart video doorbells and cameras. Ring says it can even reveal who knocked your bins over.

It’s thanks to a new feature called Smart Video Search, which makes searching for specific moments much easier.

You can look up complicated phrases to reveal easily-missed portions of your Ring Event History.

It means you won’t have to endlessly scroll through your video footage.

“It can help you answer everyday questions, like when the kids got home from school,” said Ring’s Eric Kuhn.

“You might search for ‘fox in the back garden last night’, and find the answer to why those bins were knocked over.

“While searching for ‘red bicycle in the driveway’ might turn up endearing videos of your oldest child teaching your youngest how to ride a bike.

“Or as is more likely in my family, one trying to knock the other over. Again, you’ll be surprised by what you find.”

It works using Ring IQ, which is AI tech that works to match text to images quickly.

So rather than scrolling through footage, Ring IQ can quickly work out exactly what you’re looking for – and then show you the moment.

“You’re likely already familiar with our package, person, and motion alerts,” Eric explained.

“But historically, finding a specific moment can take more time than you might have,

“With Smart Video Search, you can now quickly find something you’re looking for – and even some surprising moments.

“Giving you a better sense of what’s happening around your home or business.”

Ring, which is owned by Amazon, says that you can use it to search for a whole hist of things.

That includes:

  • Animals
  • Locations
  • Packages
  • People
  • Time
  • Vehicles
  • Weather
  • Activities

Some of the activities that you’ll be able to search for include “jumping, running, or playing”.

So how do you get the new feature?

It’s rolling out in the UK today as part of a public beta test.

That means it’s technically a trial for now to make sure that the feature works as intended.

It’ll be available to all UK customers who have a Ring Home Premium plan.

WHAT DOES RING HOME PREMIUM INCLUDE?

Here’s what you get with the £15.99-a-month plan…

  • Coverage for all devices in one location
  • Up to 180 days of Video Event History
  • Person and Package Alerts
  • Vehicle Detectin
  • Video Preview Alerts
  • Smart Video Search (new)
