Ring has just announced the arrival in France of a whole new range of outdoor and interior cameras incorporating 4K and a series of functions doped at AI. The manufacturer wants to offer more precise, clearer, and above all smarter monitoring. These cameras inaugurate a homemade technology called Retinal Visionsupposed to get closer to human perception, while inaugurating new uses such as automatic research of lost animals!
A retinal vision for images more real than life
The heart of this new generation is based on Retil Vision, a technology designed to optimize video capture in 4K. Concretely, it improves the sharpness of the images, reinforces the details at a distance and especially the readability in low light. Ring promises a more realistic image than ever, capable of clearly distinguishing a face, a license plate or a suspicious movement, even at night.
This qualitative jump is accompanied by a more precise digital zoom and a better adaptive night vision, which automatically adjusts the exposure according to the ambient light.
4K and 2K models for all uses
Several new models are announced:
- Wired video doorbell pro (3rd generation): the new flagship videophone, now in 4K.
- Spotlight Cam Pro and Floodlight Cam Pro: Outdoor cameras with integrated lighting.
- Outdoor Cam Pro: a projector without a projector, for discreet surveillance of the surroundings.
- And in 2K, Indoor Cam Plus and Wired Doorbell Plus, more accessible for the interior or reduced budgets.
All these models are compatible with Alexa, and most of them take advantage of the new functions announced.
Artificial intelligence at the heart of experience
Ring is now putting on AI to filter alerts and enrich notifications. Among the most striking new features:
- Familiar Faces: Recognition of familiar faces to avoid unnecessary alerts.
- Smart Video Descriptions: Notifications become descriptive (“a person approaching”, “detected dog”) to better assess the situation.
- Search Party: An unprecedented function capable of detecting a lost animal (such as a dog) and automatically alert owners thanks to the collaboration of other Ring cameras nearby.
- Alexa Greetings: Alexa can now respond to the porter or welcome a visitor for you.
These advanced functions will be available via subscription, as is already the case on other Ring products.
With this new range, Ring clearly targets the top of the basket. The combination of a “retinian” 4K, a contextual AI and new Alexa interactions positions the brand as one of the most ambitious players in the sector. It remains to be seen whether these promises will translate, in the field, by a real improvement in everyday life, or if they will only complicate already very technological security.
