If you want to know something, all you need to do is ask. At least, that’s the mantra of someone who wanted to find out the price of the ROG Xbox Ally.
According to YouTuber, Destin Legarie, and his local Best Buy, the base Xbox Ally will retail at $549.99, while the Ally X will set you back $899.99.
While Microsoft and Asus haven’t confirmed the pricing structure, Legarie was also sent images of the demo stations set up at a Best Buy store, which has the $899.99 price tag plastered on it. These demo stations are said to be arriving in the “coming weeks”, which lines up with Asus ROG Xbox Ally release date.
However, while we’d take the pricing with a pinch of salt until Microsoft or Asus confirm or deny it, the price tag on the base model places it squarely in the mix with some of the best PC gaming handhelds. Sure, the Xbox Ally X is a bit pricier, but the specs are worth it – you’ll get more power for your buck and a device that’ll see you through some of the best PC games with ease.
Plus, let’s not forget that in the world of PC handhelds, $899.99 isn’t that bad – the Lenovo Legion Go 2, for example, just opened pre-orders for $1,349.
The official prices should be confirmed soon – we are only four weeks away from the release date – but if the base model starts at $549.99, we can expect an interesting battle between the Steam Decks of the world and the likes of Lenovo, MSI, and Asus going forward.
Opinion
If the leak holds, the entry model feels about right, while the Ally X targets enthusiasts who’ll pay for headroom and battery. Hardware alone won’t decide it; a clean, console-like UI and painless game libraries on day one will. Nail that, and this price whisper looks like the right kind of tease.
