Asus has announced the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG, a new 27-inch gaming monitor that can switch between a 5K resolution at up to 180Hz and a lower-resolution mode that prioritises higher refresh rates.

Asus has announced the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG, a new 27-inch gaming monitor that can switch between a 5K resolution at up to 180Hz and a lower-resolution mode that prioritises higher refresh rates.

The new display was revealed as part of Asus’ latest ROG hardware announcements and is positioned as a hybrid monitor aimed at users who split time between high-resolution work and competitive gaming.

According to Asus, the dual-mode design allows the panel to operate at 5120 x 2880 with a maximum refresh rate of 180Hz, or switch to a QHD mode that supports refresh rates of up to 330Hz.

Dual-mode display and gaming performance

In its native 5K configuration, the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG offers a pixel density of 218 pixels per inch, which Asus says is intended to deliver sharper text and finer detail than standard 4K panels at the same size. The monitor uses a Fast IPS panel with a quoted 0.3ms grey-to-grey response time and supports refresh rates up to 180Hz when overclocked.

For users prioritising frame rate over resolution, the monitor can switch to a QHD mode that increases the refresh rate to 330Hz. Asus says this mode is designed for fast-paced competitive titles where higher frame rates and reduced motion blur are more important than pixel count.

The display also supports Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync, along with variable refresh rate technologies including Nvidia G-Sync compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Asus claims these features work together to reduce tearing and stutter during gameplay.

The ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG also covers 97 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space and carries a VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, with peak brightness rated at up to 600 nits in HDR content. Connectivity options include one DisplayPort 1.4 input with Display Stream Compression, two HDMI 2.1 ports and a USB-C connection that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and 15W power delivery.

Additional features include Asus’ DisplayWidget Center software, Aura Sync lighting, a fully adjustable stand with tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment, and a built-in tripod socket for streaming or camera mounting.

Asus has not yet confirmed pricing or a release date for the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG. Availability is expected to vary by region, with further details to be announced closer to launch.
