On Monday, Chinese AR (Augmented Reality) tech company Rokid marked its 10th anniversary with a product launch in Hangzhou, China, where CEO Misa Zhu unveiled its latest innovation, Rokid Glasses, created in partnership with Chinese eyewear brand Bolon. The Rokid Glasses are priced at RMB 2,499 ($345) and will be available for sale in the second quarter of 2025, the company announced.

At the event, Misa revealed that Rokid’s previous AR glasses have surpassed 300,000 users worldwide, with an average daily usage of 2 hours and 45 minutes per user.

Why it matters: As AR technology continues to evolve, AR glasses have teased the market with their potential to become everyday must-use devices, similar to smartphones, especially for people with nearsightedness. Rokid’s high user engagement and global reach indicate strong market demand for AR technology, highlighting its capacity to drive innovation and transformation in related industries.

Details: The company is confident in the combination of AR glasses and AI as a future tech trend.

  • Rokid Glasses are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 platform, specifically designed for AR glasses. By integrating Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen large language model, the new model supports AI features including search, object recognition, multilingual translation, navigation, translation, and health reminders.
  • Weighing 49 grams, Rokid Glasses are designed for all-day wear and provide up to four hours of continuous use on a full charge. Notably, the charging case can recharge the glasses ten times, with each full charge taking 20 minutes.
  • The Rokid Glasses support custom lenses for nearsighted and astigmatic users, with a convenient snap-on design for easy attachment and removal. Users can answer calls or take quick snapshots with a single touch.
  • During a media interview after the launch, when asked about privacy concerns over the camera, CEO Misa said users need not worry, as the one-touch snapshot function included a sound alert. Also, the company is considering the possibility of using AI to disable the one-touch snapshot function in certain scenarios, Misa added.

Context: At the launch event, Rokid unveiled the spatial expansion gadget Rokid Spatial Link. Priced at RMB 699 ($96) and available in the second quarter of 2025, the Rokid Spatial Link supports devices with DP (DisplayPort) protocol, such as computers, phones, iPads, Switch, Xbox, and PS5. With Spatial Link, traditional small-screen devices can quickly project their display onto a large spatial screen.

  • Spatial Link features dual USB-C ports, with one end connecting to AR glasses and the other to various devices. It uses the same Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) as the Rokid AR Lite spatial computing suite, allowing users to switch the AR display between 4:3, 16:9, and 32:9 aspect ratios.
