The organizer of the Cybersecurity Congress RootedCON It will carry before the Constitutional Court the judicial ruling that allows the blockade of web pages that Laliga and Telefónica wanted. Rootedcon will submit an appeal for amparo before said court, since it understands, as stated in a statement published on social networks, that the measures that have been adopted, «No transparency, without proportionality and without adequate guarantees«, Feel a precending«extremely dangerous for the digital rights of citizenship and the Spanish technological ecosystem«.

RootedCon’s decision to present an appeal for amparo to the Constitutional arrives after the Commercial Court number 6 of Barcelona at the end of March dismiss the request of rootedcon and cloudflare so that LaLiga continue to block IP addresses indiscriminately to combat piracy in the broadcast of football matches.

From the organization they point out that the judicial resolution before which they ask for amparo ignores «surprisingly»The arguments that Rootedcon raised in his resources. In them, according to the authors of the statement, they made direct reference «to the fundamental rights to effective judicial protection and freedoms of expression and information, covered by the Constitution«.

For rootedcon, that the judge has refused to value these rights «elementals»Leave in evidence«A worrying authoritarian derives in the use of judicial measures to censor and criminalize Internet access under diffuse and general pretexts«.

The organization recalls that they have been promoting freedom, innovation and critical thinking in cybersecurity for 15 years, which leads them to take measures to what they qualify as «hit«. That is why they urge LaLiga, to telecommunications operators that are involved in the blockages and the Judiciary «To reflect on the serious impact of this type of decisions, which resemble the practices of authoritarian regimes of the last century than to those of a modern and future democracy with a future«.

From Rootedcon they have requested that precautionary measures be taken to avoid «The constant harassment that both companies and users of our country suffer«. In addition, they demand that the Congress of Deputies a public debate on the limits of control on the network, to the thread of the Initiative registered in Congress by the deputy of the BNG Néstor Rego to request government intervention to stop LaLiga.

In a statement, Nestor Rego demands the government «Stop the abusive and control practices that entities such as LaLiga and Movistar are blocking web pages, and IP addresses, under the pretext of fighting piracy in the broadcast of online football matches«. Also remember that «After the sentence in 2022 of a Barcelona Court that allowed the LaLiga to block domains to end with piracy, private companies how Movistar are making indiscriminate blockages that are having consequences in thousands of totally legitimate websites«.

Rego claims that, according to the sentence, The blockages had to occur without affecting third parties, which is not happening. For Rego, in addition, ««It is incomprehensible that private companies can block web pages. Judicial authorization is absurd at this point, but it is not even respected, because this authorization establishes that damages to third parties cannot be caused, and it is happening. Indiscriminate blockades by LaLiga and Movistar imply a violation of the rights of users and that is why the government must act«.

As a consequence of these blockages, each league day, either on the weekend or on a working day, the blockages to prevent access to websites and sites from which pirate football can be seen, make users cannot access tens of thousands of pages and completely lawful and legal web services for hours, and even days.

Social networks, video game platforms, payment services, official websites and pages of multitude of individuals and companies are inaccessible while the matches last, and even hours before and after them, with which their services cannot be consulted or use. Nor do purchases in the affected online stores, with the consequent economic damage, which joins the caused by not being able to serve the advertising that shows those who visit them. This week they have also had pages that were accessible, but that in their online stores use the Redsys payment platform, affected for several hours by blockages.
