The little sister of the NVIDIA RTX 5000 family is not far away: the RTX 5060 arrives on May 19 with all the new features inherent in the new generation, a rather reasonable Price … and always the same uncomfortable questions on the relevance of this entry -level model.
As would be expected, it will benefit from the main innovations of this latest generation, starting with the inclusion of the DLSS4 with Multi Frame Generation. As a reminder, this is a new version of the functionality which injects synthetic frames, generated by an AI model instead of being calculated by the game engine, in the rendering pipeline. Even if the quality is not always there (latency, visual artefacts, etc.), this still makes it possible to considerably increase the number of images per second.
The interest of this feature is not always easy in high -end models, which are already sufficiently efficient to target high framerates without making a concession on quality. But it is already more useful on entry -level models, which have more difficulty aimed at optimal fluidity.
Only 8 GB of VRAM
And this may be particularly true with this RTX 5060, which remains rather modest in terms of raw power. Count 3,840 cuda cores, almost 800 less than the 5060 Ti released last month… and above all, Only 8 GB of VRAM.
Admittedly, this is the new GDDR7, significantly faster than the GDDR6 and the GDDR6X of previous generations. But this very limited volume is still likely to frown a few eyebrows. Based on these figures, There is a good chance that this card will be suffocated once faced with recent titles, in high quality and in resolution 1440p.
One can therefore legitimately question its relevance in the current ecosystem; Is it really interesting to invest in a new card to play in 1080p? Even if it means sacrificing the resolution, many players will undoubtedly prefer to wait until the exit of the RTX 5050, expected in the second quarter.
A recommended rate that could explode
Another potentially problematic point: the price. The basic price, established at $ 299, fortunately remains quite reasonable. But in fact, the invoice tends to be much more salty. We must also take into account the economic context. It is not excluded that the customs duties implemented by the Trump administration have the addition increases far beyond this reference price.
So we meet you in just under two weeks to find out what sauce the gamers will be eaten. Who knows; Maybe it will be the good surprise of this generation which, so far, has not frankly unleashed the crowds …
