Matter 1.5 was revealed last month and added support for security cameras, smart doorbells, and other gadgets to the popular smart home standard. Now, Samsung has confirmed it will be the first platform to support the tech, beating Amazon, Apple, and Google.

Samsung’s SmartThings will support Matter 1.5 with an update coming before the end of the year. The standard allows you to access most smart home security features through your service of choice rather than switching between different apps. Examples include watching live footage, panning or tilting a camera, receiving movement notifications, or adding privacy zones.

We don’t yet know which devices will support Matter 1.5, or whether you’ll need to upgrade to newer devices for them to work with one of the major platforms.

Samsung has confirmed that it has collaborated with Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam on upcoming Matter-supported cameras, which are expected to arrive starting in March 2026. Other brands will likely introduce new gadgets with built-in support in the next few months.

SmartThings already works with some camera brands, including Arlo and Ring, but this new support will allow Samsung users to better mix and match their gadgets.

Matter 1.5 also introduces a new category of device called “closures,” for gadgets like smart blinds, garage door shutters, and gates. The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), which handles Matter, says this new categorization will improve security through more precise reporting back to your smart home platform.

It will also introduce support for soil sensors that some tech-savvy gardeners use to monitor a plant’s health.
