Jong-hee was in charge of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile business. Immediately after his passing, Samsung named Jun Young-hyun as the company’s sole CEO effective immediately. Han, who was 63 years became CEO of Samsung in 2022. He died after suffering a cardiac arrest episode earlier, a spokesperson from the company informed. Han is widely known for his contribution to Samsung’s leadership in the TV industry surpassing the company’s biggest rival Sony Corp.
Samsung says, “Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Another spokesperson said, “Han was the key figure behind making Samsung’s TV business influential on a global scale. With his sudden passing… there could have some long-term impact on its business strategy, particularly in areas like marketing.”
Talking about his vast years with Samsung, Han joined the company in 1988 immediately after completing his bachelor’s degree from Inha University. He then began heading the visual display division in 2011. He then started heading the home appliances department in Samsung competing with other giants already present in the market.
Recently, he took charge of the AI integration into Samsung’s flagship devices including Galaxy S25 series and devices coming next year. He wanted to boom artificial intelligence into Samsung’s range of products, especially that’s available for everyday use. The company recently started installing AI chips in washing machines, fridges, and vacuum cleaners.
