SAMSUNG has cut off four of its mobile phones – and you shouldn’t ignore the consequences.
Mobile giants like Samsung churn out loads of different phone models each year.
And it becomes difficult for these companies to keep supporting them with updates over time.
As the number of owners of those phones dwindle, it stops being cost-effective for tech giants like Samsung to keep putting time into adding new features and fixing security holes.
Now Samsung has ended software support for four phone models, as revealed by Sammobile.
The four phones in question are:

All of these phones launched in mid-to-late 2021, making them around four years old.
And these smartphones had already been cut off from receiving new features.
That’s a shame for owners of the phones, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

However, Samsung has now stopped providing them with security updates, and that’s a much more serious problem.
Gadget-makers usually deliver security updates regularly to close holes that could be (or are being) exploited by cybercriminals.
It’s one of your best defences against online crime, and it’s usually free – as long as you keep updating.
But once security updates stop, you’re left without any way to close the security holes yourself.
That means criminals can use security flaws that might even be very well-known to break into your device and potentially online accounts too.
So sticking with a phone that no longer receives updates is a very bad idea from a security perspective.
STAY PHONE SAFE!
Here’s the expert advice from The Sun’s tech editor Sean Keach…
No more security updates? That doesn’t sound too bad.
Well it is, and you shouldn’t ignore it.
All phones rely on security updates to keep you safe from cybercriminals who look to exploit known bugs.
And if they break into your phone, there’s no telling what damage they could cause.
Not only could a savvy hacker spy on you, they could also break into important accounts – and potentially raid your finances.
Security updates close these holes in your devices to block many of the cyberattacks that would otherwise break through your phone’s defences.
So if your mobile no longer receives them, it’s simply not worth the risk to keep using that device.
Upgrade as soon as possible.
I appreciate it’s not always easy to find a newer model, especially when budgets are tight.
But consider looking at refurbished phones or mid-range devices, both of which can be a little cheaper.
It’s much better to have a slightly newer cheap device that is safer than holding out for a massive upgrade while using a dangerous old phone.

That means if you’re using one of these older devices, it’s important to upgrade as soon as you’re able to.
This problem doesn’t just affect Samsung phone owners either.
All Android mobiles – and Apple iPhone devices – get cut off from updates eventually.
And losing access to security updates becomes one of the biggest problems with holding on to very old smartphones.

Check online to see if your device is still supported and receiving software updates.
If your model has been cut off, consider upgrading – or it could cost you far more down the line.
