Samsung has held firm on Galaxy Ring pricing since the wearable launched in the summer, instead, repeatedly discounting its flagship smartphones and watches. That has now changed with a surprise new Black Friday offer.
The smart ring is 10% cheaper when the code “RINGAPP” is used at checkout. This only works when buying the Galaxy Ring in the Samsung Shop app, it won’t work on the company’s website. This deal lasts until December 3rd and comes with a free sizing kit.
This voucher worked for me in the U.K., but it’s not clear if the deal will work in all territories. In the U.S., Samsung has upped trade-in prices when buying the Ring (on the website), which tops out at $200. To net that value, shoppers would have to hand over a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, or Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Unless you have a very specific need for a low-profile sleep-tracking device, neither are wise trades because smartwatches are functionally more impressive than smart rings. Those watches are also fairly new and won’t need to be replaced for a few years.
If you are doing a like-for-like swap, Samsung will prize the Amazefit Helio from your finger for $80, or the Oura Ring Gen 3 for $100. Again, these are not good deals considering both currently retail for far more. The best option is $110 for your 2018 Galaxy Watch, or $120 for the Samsung Gear S3. If you have something that once used to be a smartwatch, the Korean company will pay $50 for “any smartwatch” in “any condition.”
The enhanced trade-in prices are fine if you have something worthwhile to hand over. The deal isn’t as enticing as Samsung’s other trade-in price promotions when buying a smartphone. But the 10% off discount is a serious deal that’s worth your attention if you are in the market for a smart ring. It requires nothing more than buying it through the app, rather than via the website (or a third-party retailer).
As far as I am aware, this is the first proper Galaxy Ring discount since the wearable launched in July. Now that the seal has been broken Samsung will almost certainly include the device in future sales. Especially if rumors about a Galaxy Ring 2 landing earlier than expected turn out to be accurate.
