As Apple reportedly moves away from iterating on its Vision Pro headset in favor of smart glasses, a new report claims Samsung will release its Galaxy XR device before the end of October—and the company is reportedly holding a debut event in its home country of South Korea.
As Korean publication FNNews (vua Jukanlosreve) asserts the headset, which they’re calling the Galaxy XR, will launch on October 22. A pre-order period is supposed to open between October 15 and 21.
It’s not clear from the report when the debut event will actually take place but it’s presumably before October 15 so people can pre-order. FNNews also reports that the headset will be on display in Samsung stores starting on October 20. This aligns with a previous rumor out of Korea pegging the launch date as October 21.
The headset, known thus far as Project Moohan, has made multiple appearances throughout this year—from the January Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy S25 series to MWC in February to Google I/O in May as well as at smaller conferences like AWE 2025.

There’s still plenty we don’t know about Project Moohan or Galaxy XR. Based on rumors and leaks, we believe it will cost around $2,000, cheaper than the Vision Pro but as expensive as the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
FNNnews seems to agree with that price. The headset (which runs on Android XR ad the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR 2 Plus Gen 2 chip) will reportedly weigh less than 500 grams, which would be lighter than the Vision Pro and the Meta Quest 3.
Whether or not it takes off will largely be dependent on price as Apple’s Vision Pro has failed to sell widely, thanks in large part to its $3,500 price tag. Meta leads the game with its Quest headsets, but even its focus has switched to smart glasses.
Speaking of spectacles
It’ll be interesting to see how much of a foothold Samsung’s headset can actually garner. Especially as AI-powered smart glasses seem to be the future of AR and XR.
Apple reportedly paused development on a new Vision Pro in favor of Apple Glasses. And Meta just announced a trio of new AR glasses, including the Ray-Ban Display glasses that features an AR display in one of the lenses.
Samsung is working with Google to develop its own Project Haean AR glasses. Those frames are rumored to release in early 2026. If that proves true, next year could be the year of AR glasses as multiple companies try to enter the burgeoning field.
