Owners of Samsung phones are certainly not a rare breed. According to data from Statista, the brand currently has the largest share of the global smartphone market and has been competing for the top spot for almost as long as records have been kept.
For most non-tech-obsessed people, the choice is between Apple’s iPhone or Samsung if you fancy an Android phone. Now, Samsung device users will soon be able to get a great free software upgrade.
This is what reliable tipster Ice Universe says. In a post on Twitter, Ice said: “It’s still half a month before the beta starts,” referring to the beta version of Samsung’s One UI 7.
However, that was posted on November 1, which could mean the software will land on devices as soon as next Friday (November 15). That’s the mathematical middle of the month, although it can obviously be a little off on either side.
That’s a little later than usual from the brand, which has suggested a stable build could arrive in early 2025. In previous years, devices sometimes had stable versions of the software at this point in the year.
Apple-inspired features
There are already rumors of a wide range of features for this software update. In addition to updates to the Google-powered Circle to Search, we expect some new camera features and a redesigned version of the Energy Score feature.
There could also be a feature straight from the Apple Playbook. The news comes from a tipster named Chun Bhai, who is not known to T3. Normally we’d recommend taking this with a grain of salt, although it appears this user has some access to One UI 7 given his message history.
The tweet in question suggests that Samsung will be using an AI-powered notification summary feature, similar to one teased for Apple devices in the latest version of iOS 18.
That would be a pretty important update. While there have been all kinds of AI-powered features touted by various brands, notification summary is something that almost everyone would take advantage of.
